About Huntington
Huntington is a town, not a village: the name covers both the whole North Shore township and the unincorporated downtown at its center, where New York Avenue, the Paramount, and the Heckscher Museum sustain a Main Street that does not close after Labor Day. The estate market sits around it: Lloyd Harbor’s wooded peninsula beside Caumsett State Park, Huntington Bay, Halesite and the marinas of Huntington Harbor. Cold Spring Harbor sits on the town’s western edge with its own harbor and its own school district, and we cover it separately. The Port Jefferson Branch reaches Penn Station in about an hour. Five school districts cross the town and their lines ignore hamlet boundaries, which is the first thing a buyer here needs to understand.
Finding a residence in Huntington
We search Huntington on your behalf
We are not publishing our own listings here at present, and we would rather say so than fill the page. What we do instead is the more useful half: we search across public listings, professional member systems, broker relationships, and direct outreach. Non-public opportunities are subject to seller authorization and availability.
Tell us what you are looking for in Huntington and you will hear from us within 24 hours.

A Huntington home assessed at $1,000,000 carries
$16,766
a year, an effective rate of 1.68% of market value
- School
- $12,846
- County
- $1,690
- Town
- $2,230
Rates are levied per $1,000 of full market value and shown here against the Huntington school district. This figure does not include special districts (fire, water, library, sanitation, ambulance); STAR, veterans, senior and other exemptions; addresses inside an incorporated village pay a separate village tax at different county and town rates. We pull the actual bill for any specific parcel before you go to contract.

- Grievance Day falls in May
- In Suffolk the filing period runs from May 1 to the third Tuesday in May, which is Tuesday, May 18, 2027. The grievance is filed with the assessor in your own town rather than with the county, and the date does not move. Filing costs nothing, and the case is made with what comparable houses actually sold for.
Filing dates are set by statute and computed from the rule rather than quoted from a past year. Confirm the current date with the assessor before you rely on it.

This figure does not represent the share of homes or parcels at risk in Huntington — only the share of FEMA-mapped area within a 2-mile radius of the town's page coordinates, not a property count or a town-wide figure; the flood zone of any single address, which must be confirmed against its own FIRM panel before pricing insurance.
