About Sag Harbor
Sag Harbor incorporated in 1846, and the Southampton–East Hampton town line was later drawn straight through it: roughly three-fifths of the village falls in Southampton, the rest in East Hampton, divided along Division Street. It remains one government and one school district. The value sits in the historic district and on the water at Sag Harbor Cove; the district holds some 870 contributing buildings around Long Wharf, built in 1771, and the 1845 whaling-merchant mansion that now houses the Whaling Museum. There is no station here; Bridgehampton and East Hampton are each a short drive. This is a walking village rather than an estate market, and it prices accordingly.
Finding a residence in Sag Harbor
We search Sag Harbor on your behalf
We are not publishing our own listings here at present, and we would rather say so than fill the page. What we do instead is the more useful half: we search across public listings, professional member systems, broker relationships, and direct outreach. A Sag Harbor home assessed at $1,000,000 carries
$5,375
a year, an effective rate of 0.54% of market value
- School
- $2,885
- County
- $1,690
- Town
- $800
Rates are levied per $1,000 of full market value and shown here against the Sag Harbor school district. This figure does not include special districts (fire, water, library, sanitation, ambulance); STAR, veterans, senior and other exemptions; addresses inside an incorporated village pay a separate village tax at different county and town rates. We pull the actual bill for any specific parcel before you go to contract.

- Grievance Day falls in May
- In Suffolk the filing period runs from May 1 to the third Tuesday in May, which is Tuesday, May 18, 2027. The grievance is filed with the assessor in your own town rather than with the county, and the date does not move. Filing costs nothing, and the case is made with what comparable houses actually sold for.
Filing dates are set by statute and computed from the rule rather than quoted from a past year. Confirm the current date with the assessor before you rely on it.

The Bureau publishes no median gross rent above $3,500. Sag Harbor is at that ceiling, so the figure above is where the survey stops rather than where the market does.
These figures describe the housing, not the people who live in it, and we publish them as the Bureau measured them without interpreting them. Its own profile for Sag Harbor village, New York carries considerably more.

Getting to Sag Harbor
- LIRR
- No station in Sag Harbor. Bridgehampton lies about six or seven miles southwest and East Hampton about eight or nine east; from either, Penn Station runs roughly two and a quarter to two and a half hours on the Montauk Branch, with a change at Jamaica on most trains. There is no one-seat ride to Grand Central Madison.
- By Car
- About two and a quarter to two and three-quarter hours via the Expressway and Route 27, then Route 114 into the village. Summer Fridays between three and seven can stretch that to four or six, with the Bridgehampton junction the usual bottleneck.
Watch what your home is worth
